Relational View - different display formats?

    Hi,

I was wondering if there were any plans to add an option to display the Relational View in another format, like you can choose to display your Document Window in ORM2, CrowsFootOnly, Barker or InformationEngineering.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Marc

While we do support those other display options at the conceptual level, their use at the relational level seems inappropriate. Perhaps you could describe the specific relational notation(s) you would like us to support.

    Cheers

    Terry

    Hi Terry,

    Thank you for your response.

I would like to discuss the logical data model with the developers. However, they are familiair with the format you call "Information Engineering". In addition, it would be desirable if you could also generate a class diagram, but the preference is given to the first one.

    Kind regards,

    Marc

     Hi Marc,

You can generate a class model from NORMA.
The method is explained in the NORMA tutorials.

    Hi Ken,

    Thanks.

Apparently I have overlooked the generation of a class diagram when I was studying the labs. So I wil look at it again.

    Kind regards,

    Marc

     Hi Marc,

Regarding Information Engineering, page 320 in Terry's 2008 book contains a 1:1 mapping between some aspects of IE notation and ORM.

You can also change some aspects of the ORM notation by choosing from the Visual Studio>Tool>Options>Entity Relationship Learning Modes.

    Hi Ken,

I am reading that book. It is a beautiful well written book.

I already knew that option, but I was wondering if there were any plans to also add that option for the Relational View. Now, it only affects the Document Window (Conceptual View).

    Kind regards,

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

As Terry mentions in his book, Clive Finkelstein developed the Information Engineering notation and it was later popularised by James Martin with whom I used to do TV shows.

As we discussed offline, James gave me a copy of his original IE documentation. In 1989, James published IE in three books that may still be available online. (e.g. Amazon). Is this the book that you are reading?
