  • Link to paper: ORM2 & Description Logics

Hi, Though the author and the paper may be know to some here, I came across the link http://arxiv.org/abs/cs.LO/0702089 last night. I hadn't heard of Description Logic Languages before, but the paper's tie in with ORM2 whetted my apatite. BRN..
  • Info on enforcing ring constraints?

Hi, Does anyone have any information or resources to check regarding enforcing ring constraints? Did any of previous versions of ORM tools generate code to enforce all types of ring constraints, or just the comments sections I've seen that pass that responsibility on to the DB implementor? As the various types of ring constraints are ...
  • RE: Verbalization problem on subset constrain

Hi Brian, thanks for your reply. We have indeed downloaded and looked at most of the publications on ORM.net, and the powerpoint files supplied here. I have also worked with some ORM tools in the past (mostly FCO-IM based tools, but very similar) and visio. Whereas Visio has a window especially for submitting constraints and defining roles, ...

  • RE: Entering constraints declaratively

I don't know that it's generally going to be possible to parse foreign language verbalisations. I think it's worth doing for English, but a more context-free language is needed for international adoption. ADL is a toy DDL really, I've never got the handling of relationships (essentially facts) right, and certainly haven't got the support ...

  • RE: Entering constraints declaratively

Hi Clifford, Your point of having the input (FactType entry), and output (Verbalization), using the same syntax/grammar/lexicon makes sense - in the same way that binary facttypes can (should), make sense when read from either direction. In the later case, the words and phrasing are different for each direction,to accommodate English usage, ...
  • RE: Entering constraints declaratively

''eventually support a parsable textual input language for ORM'' Is this going to be a derivative of FORML? Or something with more of a symbolic (programming language) feel, or both/and? I was planning on trying a fairly simple approach to parsing NORMA's verbalizations using regular expressions. If that works ok, then I can add more ...

  • RE: Entering constraints declaratively

Hi Terry, Thanks for taking the time to comment on the NORMA development road map, or if that has too much of a connotation of certainty, then the at least a fair assessment of the way forward. I imagine that the work you are doing toward the live views will help when the time comes for reworking the FactEditor - let's hope. Good ...
  • RE: Entering constraints declaratively

Unfortunately the fact editor has had little done to it since Scott graduated from Neumont. We are currently focusing most of our efforts on rearchitecting the transformation process from ORM to allow live views of target structures (e.g. database schemas and class models) and to enable much better handling of data types and name generation. ...

  • RE: Verbalization problem on subset constrain

Hi, My guess is that the modality doesn't factor into this issue. Alethic constraints can not be violated; deontic constraints SHOULD not be violated. There's quite a bit of documentation on ORM, ORM2 and related matters on Dr. Halpin's website http://ORM.net. NORMA documentation is not as complete, at least in part as things keep ...

  • RE: value types non functional

Hi, Yes, that's what I've seen too. Things like this are, I think, just part of the state of flux in which the project is at the present time. To my way of thinking, if there are several ways to get something done in NORMA, and at least one is working correctly at the moment, I'll go that route - so you can get to more interesting stuff. ...
