  • RE: Value Constraint Diagram Shape

Well, that sounds fair, Tyler. I was thinking of the Visio-style bounding rectangles, not aware something like that wouldn't be available in VS. Wrt what to do when a value doesn't fit, drop it. If none fit, just show the { ... }. If the list has to be truncated, the display on the diagram only really serves to indicate that you have a value ...

  • RE: Value Constraint Diagram Shape

Matt, Kevin, Jaron and I went over a few of the layout ideas after class tonight. Clifford, I did a mockup of your bounding box idea in HTML / javascript to see how the behavior would look. The conclusion we reached is that a bounding box would be a nice thing to have, but there are several unresolved issues. What happens when one of the values is ...

  • RE: Value Constraint Diagram Shape

The trouble with the idea of using a column count and/or row count or max items is that not all items are necessarily the same size. I'd rather you just have a bounding box around the items which is displayed with draggable edges and corners, and if not all the values fit then the last one displayed is followed by an ellipsis. That way I can ...

  • RE: Value Constraint Diagram Shape

It's a good suggestion to 'load balance' the rows, but I think it can be done automatically. How about the following modified proposal: Have two properties, MaximumDisplayedValues and MaximumDisplayedColumns (instead of ValuesPerRow). This way, we are not bound by the property name to have exactly that number of columns. Apply the following ...
  • RE: Value Constraint Diagram Shape

At the risk of making things more confusing for the end user, what about a third property called ''fudge-factor''? If I set it to ''4 items per row'' and I have 5 items, a fudge-factor of 1 would allow it to display that 1 extra item in the same row. So looking at that typed out, it sounds absurd. But I'm leaving it there as ''it's been ...

  • RE: Value Constraint Diagram Shape

The last discussion I had on this with Terry, we had tentatively reached the following point: 1) Use two additional properties on the ValueConstraintShape to determine layout (property names are not fixed), MaximumDisplayedValues and ValuesPerRow. 2) The default is unbounded on both values (the current behavior) There is no natural location ...
  • RE: MS DSL tools in SDK

Hi Matt, Hope you and yours got a chance to relax a bit during the Easter break. While trying to create NORMA extensions is not on my to-do list, the info you provided should help those that are. Including a note about the MSI workaround would be a good idea for the readme file of the next CTP. From previous posts, it sounds like this ...
  • RE: MS DSL tools in SDK

The SDK has had DSLTools restributable included since September 2006, and this is the DSLToolsRedist bits we're currently distributing with NORMA. This has basically no impact on NORMA, except for potentially requiring the newer redist bits the next time we drop. There are some Vista fixes in the latest MS bits, but MS did not change the MSI ...
  • RE: Need VS 2005? MS offer

I completed two of the on-demand webcasts and received a voucher for my copy of VS 2005 Standard Edition. The shipping cost was $10. Now, I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Thanks Brian! Scott

  • RE: Project and Forum hosting plans?

Folk, As many of you probably know, there is now a Yahoo group for discussion of information modeling in general. You need to register with Yahoo (create a Yahoo ID), and associate it with a valid email address (though you can keep that completely private), and then you can receive and contribute messages to the group via email or online. ...
