  • Formating the verbalizer output

There are two major problems.   (1) there needs to be a blank line separating each of the entity types (before each "_____ is an entity type") and before each of the fact types (2) we should try to preserve the indentation when doing a "copy image" and paste into a word processing application such as Word. The first is ...

  • Irreflexive Ring vs. Value Comparison constraint -- Are they equivalent?

In the attached file I have shown a simple ORM model, using two different types of constraints on the ternary predicate.  The verbalizations appear to be equivalent except for the part about the chosen constraint type.  My question: are these equivalent?  It certainly is true that the verbalization for the not equal value comparison ...

  • Re: Objectification in the latest NORMA update

I think I finally understand the problem and why this solution is necessary. The basic idea is that with an objectified predicate you now have two objects, hence there is an implied fact sentence between them.  However, for the objectified predicate there is an (implied) fact type, actually a separate one for each role in the predicate as it ...

Matt,   As you can see from the posts below (to my class forum) students are still having trouble with this problem and how to correct it.  Can you give a little more guidance?Postings on H6 Forum, Party Time!   2014s Objectified ternary error by Michael Schnaser - Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 9:42 ...

  • Why extra tables in relational view if not declared independent?

I have an ORM model (in 2013/12 version) where some items only play functional dependencies with other objects, yet in the relational view, the are shown in their own tables, even though they are not declared as independent.  In earlier versions of NORMA this did not happen.  Is there some way I can attach a file to a post so you ...

  • Error trying to run NORMA in VS2012.

I downloaded and installed latest version of NORMA for VS2012. When I try to open in VS (file > new > file >ORM file, or Open and existing .orm file, I get the message shown in the attached .pdf file. Any ideas. I could try VS2010 since that is also installed on my machine. It worked fine in VS2010. Maybe I will try downloading VS2013 ...

  • Latest version of Tutorials

I see some tutorials on the Souceforge website. They all appear to have a date of 7/1/2009. I see other tutorials listed on the ORMfoundation website, most with later dates. To get the latest do we get them from ORMfoundation and ignore what is posted on Sourceforge? If so, why not remove them from Sourceforge and add a link to ...

  • Re: suppress data types from verbalization

You are right.  The data types do not show up in the verbalizer.  I think my students were mixing up reference mode with data type.

  • suppress data types from verbalization

I note it is possible to suppress the display of data types from the relational view.  Is it also possible to suppress the display of data types from the verbalization?  Data types is getting closer to implementation and a physical data model.  It has little place in a purely conceptual data model.  It is not something the ...

  • Promoting and Selling ORM/FOM

We need a forum topic on how to promote non-record-based data modeling schemes, such as ORM or FOM.  I remember that we had an extended discussion about this at the Portugal workshop (2007).  The question before us:  What is the vision for ORM/FOM and how can we make the world aware of this clearly superior scheme for capturing and ...
