  • Re: Visual studio community 2013 - Free visual studio that supports NORMA

Hi Karl, Thank you very much for this information! This saves me some hundred euros ;-). Kind regards, Jacob
  • Re: Why incompatible types at subset contraints?

Hi Matt, Thank you for your extensive answer! My initial question is answered. However I still don't fully understand why - in my initial example - at defining the sample population for 'Performed Quality Test has been promised' I can select Quality Test 'QT-1'. 'Performed Quality Test' is namely a different identity, ...

  • Re: Why incompatible types at subset contraints?

Hi Matt, First of all: Don't learn from my posts that DEMO tells what to do with an ORM model. I try to capture my interpretation of DEMO in an ORM model. That might be wrong. I understand what you wrote about different types and preferred identifier. An example: the entity type 'Person' with reference mode .Name, and a unary ...

  • Re: Why incompatible types at subset contraints?

Hi Matt, There are two aspects in your answer: 1) behaviour of NORMA; 2) how I did the conceptual modelling. About the latter: this is the most interesting part for me and I appreciate your comments, but let's try in those posts to focus on the first one. (For your interest: I try to model the objective world and the intersubjective world as ...

  • Why incompatible types at subset contraints?

See the scheme below. Why do I get "Model Error: Constraint 'SubsetConstraint1' in model 'ORMModel1' has role players with incompatible types." for the two subset constraints to the left and to the right? When setting the sampe population for e.g. 'Quality Test is planned to be performed on Date' and for ...

  • Re: Translation possible of 'keywords'?

Hi Matt, Some time passed since my latest post... Currently I am translating the core verbalisation into Dutch.I fnished translating the words in the xml file, and now I am modelling some things to check the translation. I was wondering: do you have a model in which all different things / patterns that can be modelled, are modelled? Kind ...
  • Re: Roles played by supertype with other name at subtype

Hi Ken and Clifford, Thank you for your replies. @Ken: I use ORM for about 8 years (and am very satisfied about it!) and knows very well the things you wrote. However I only gave the information that I thought it's enough for ORM specialist ;-) @Cliffor: See the picture below: is this what you mean? I haven't a good feeling about it, ...

  • Roles played by supertype with other name at subtype

See the picture below, diagrams 1 and 2. Shipments have Shipment lines. There are several kinds of shipments. So we could say that there are also several kinds of shipment lines: 'Production Shipment Line', 'Sales Shipment Line'. So on diagrams where the Sales domain is discussed it would be nice to talk about 'Sales Shipment ...

  • Re: Conditional mandatory constraints

@Clifford, Honestly speaking, when I was writing my reaction, I started to write something about relevancy of this 'pattern' on business level. However I deleted it because I thought it was too 'off-topic'. So: I totally agree with you that there are similar situationson clearly conceptual levels. What you sketch is also followed ...

  • Re: Conditional mandatory constraints

I have no answer to your question, but: I never deal with such issues in ORM. The simple reason: I use ORM for conceptual modeling, what is something different than how things are solved on implementation level. By the way: what is 'NORMA Pro'?
