Well, the answer to this question partly depends on what "The organization" is trying to achieve.

So please will you be a bit more explicit on the "problem" to which "The organization" needs a solution?

In brief, ORM and SBVR both adopt a fact-oriented approach. ORM is based solidly on first-order logic, while SBVR allows some higher-order logic interpretations ORM has a rich graphical syntax and a vast body of rigorous theory (e.g. regarding transformations), which SBVR currently lacks.

Is there a more detailed comparision between data modeling languages such as ERM and ORM on the one side and (business) rule languages such as such as SBVR, RIF, RuleML, R2ML etc. on the other? I know there is same overlap but also some differences. Is it only the application domain or the research community or can you draw a line between the two? Can the Ontology Definition Metamodel (ODM) be seen as an effort to combine both worlds?

I'm not aware of a paper dealing specifically with the comparisons that you listed, though there are some papers that do discuss the close relationship between ORM and SBVR. There are many rule languages around, based on various logics, and Common Logic (now an ISO standard) is one attempt to facilitate interchange between them.

Ontology languages such as OWL also have basic inferencing capabilities, based on description logic, and extended datalog is even more powerful. I'm currently writing a series of articles for the Business Rules Journal that approaches ontology languages and datalog from the perspective of information modeling (as done in ORM, ER and UML). ORM would be very suitable for building graphical models conforming to most of the SBVR standard. Wouldn't it?
