  • RE: ORM and Not Exists

Hi, Not sure I'm on track here, but if what you wanted was (by way of example), to keep employees from accessing a website that was blacklisted; If Website was an entity it could play the role of being accessable by Employee (Binary FactType), Website is blacklisted (Unary FactType), with an exclusion constraint connected to the appropriate ...
  • RE: Model notes

Hi, have you tried the Model Note object/connector/editor in the Oct release? Seems to work well. BRN..

  • RE: install with VS IDE for sql server 2005

Hi, If it helps, here's the link for the qualifications for upgrade pricing for VS 05 Standard: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/howtobuy/renewal/#standard There's a fair chance you have one of the qualifying products. That's still up to $199 out of your pocket, so not a perfect solution. I'm using the standard edition, and if you look ...

  • RE: Object Properties?

Hi, Do you mean the properties of an Object in an ORM model? If you select the object in the diagram, the properties box (tab), will allow you to see and set all the properties that apply. I did notice (while experimenting), that while you can add and ORM model item to some types of projects in VS, you don't get all the functionallity you ...

  • RE: The term "Fact Type"

Hi, Thanks for the responses. It helps to understand the environment within which the project is taking shape. This is, after all, a development process; so we all (I hope), understand, that the wrinkles will get ironed in time. Thanks Tyler, also for pointing out that 'FactType' and 'Fact Type' are being used internally (in the ...
  • Increase the activity of these forums

Hi, I think it would be helpful to the project to increase the activity level on these forums. While issues raised in the forums are generally addressed by project team members, it would be helpful if they provided more input. A habit of posting comments about areas that they are working on at present, the factors that are part of their ...
  • RE: C# Code Generation

Hi, Interesting. I wonder how much is due to the fact that you are crossing from one paradigm to another. With a persective and goal of lining up with the Relation Model, ORM is structure oriented. C# is a programming language - process. A RDBMS uses process to establish and manage structure, using the process of programming to do that. One ...

  • RE: OIAL > DCIL and column names

Thanks for the feedback and info. I'll look at the transforms. It also helps to hear some of the thinking that goes into a deveopment process like this. I have been experimenting with assigning role names. From info I got from another thread, I found that the 'hidden' roles that you can find with the ORM Object Browser, by drilling down - if ...

  • OIAL > DCIL and column names

Hi, I was wondering just where a column names get the abreviated form they have in .sql files. How does Patriarch(Name) become Ptrrch_nm? Looking at the OIAL file, I saw that that it's still ''Patriarch,'' but in the DCIL file it's now ''Ptrrch.'' What causes the abreviation? Traditionally, DB coulmn names are kept short. I'll agree ...

  • RE: Attaching .orm files to forum message

Thanks for the info. I'll be working on revamping my website (hosted on discountasp.net), soon. I should be able to set up an area for the kind of traffic I'd expect from this project, at this stage. I'll let you know. For now, we'll go with the external URLs. BTW, I don't think this is a bad place for the forums (once you jump through ...
