  • ORCAS support

What's the present situation regarding the CTP and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (codename ORCAS). Is NORMA yet installable in that version of VS? /Sten

  • NORMA on Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2

I've just moved over from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2008. (Some might think that's irresponsible, but given my use of Visual Studio I assure you it's exactly the opposite:-))When I tried to install NORMA I was told that NORMA requires Visual Studio 2005. Any chance of a patch here real soon? I know I would appreciate it. /Sten

  • RE: External objects

Brian, Thanks for the tips. I haven't been in those places you suggest yet, but I'm certainly going to. And I totally agree with what you're saying about the Neumont team. Terry and I go back quite a while now, and Matt has been really helpful too. They are great guys, and they know what they are doing. And we all know that Terry is the ...

  • RE: External objects

Thanks again Brian, I strongly agree with your statement about objects in ORM being different from Objects in OO techniques. In fact, I tend to think about the ORM objects as terms rather than as objects, terms which refer to underlying concepts. As a matter of fact I'm not very interested in so-called domain objects in OO. This is because ...

  • RE: Duplicates

Thank you Brian, I'm fully aware of the multi-page feature, and I use it intensively. What I mean is where multiple objects on one single page are related to the same object. Allowing the same object to occur in more than one place on a specific diagram helps me avoid cluttering the diagram. Still, your message helped, and I thank you for ...

  • External objects

Here's the second wish of the day. IMO it's an important wish, especially in a SOA environment. It's for a chance to designate an object (probably just entity objects) as an external object to the model, belonging to another model. A typical service-oriented architectural pattern is (or will be) to create an infrastructure of shareable ...

  • Duplicates

I have two wishes today, and I will divide and hopefully conquer by splitting them into two messages. I'll take the easy one first. It would be nice to be able to see that a specific object is duplicated and thus occurs in another place on the same diagram. This would help the viewer understand that additional facts about the duplicated object ...

  • RE: Reference Mode or Reference Scheme?

Whatever it's called, it shouldn't be marked as an error if missing. It should be possible to enter an entity type without assigning a reference mode/scheme to it, and to show that entity type to business domain experts without having the lack of a reference mode flagged as an error. It's perfectly normal to assign ref modes late in the process, ...

  • RE: Changing makeValidIdentifier

I believe there is a conceptual quality in the isExternal property. One of the great things about Service-Oriented Architecture is the way it allows you to build an infrastructure of shareable information. Such an infrastructure technically consists of a number of entity services, where the mission of each entity service is to be the only ...

  • RE: Deontic modality

Actually, I do think that a deontic constraint should be implemented. An alethic constraint is verbalized in terms of ''must''; e.g. a race horse must have exactly one trainer. If you break an alethic constraint an error should be issued and the operations should be denied. A deontic constraint is verbalized in terms of ''should''; e.g. a race ...
