• Re: Corrupt ORM file

Finding the problem with the XML was easy, but there is one line that starts with an 'invalid character' followed by some 55,000 spaces! I tried deleting that line, but clearly it replaced a lot of substance because I kept getting invalid references, removing those references, and after about five of these I started over. That ...

  • Corrupt ORM file

When I try to load one of my ORM files (or the solution that uses that file) I get the following message: Cannot load '...\IT_Management.orm':'.', hexadecimal vaue 00x0, is an invalid character. Line 7454, position 1. When viewed as XML it indeed looks bad, but I'm not smart enough to fix it. Is there a simple way to recover ...

  • Highlight in Model Object Browser

I would find it helpful if, when I select an object or (especially) a fact in the graphic window, that the corresponding object or (more especially) fact were highlighted. This would be useful when I create a new page and want to drag existing objects and facts from the model browser. With objects it is pretty easy to get the right one, but with ...

  • Re: Why should people use / teach ORM (instead)?

On using ORM: I have a very experienced colleague who is a SQL expert. He is very comfortable at the physical layer. Yet when confronted with a legacy application his first move is to the users to determine the conceptual data required by their business. This colleague has the skill to model the concepts in E-R. Few of us are so blessed. ORM is ...

  • Re: Using data-type for rule modeling

I would agree with Ken. And with John Zachman, who, I believe, would say that the original conceptual model is simply not complete. Zachman classifies by the target audence, not by the amount of content, and this makes much more sense to me.

  • Support for Visual Studio 2010

What are your plans for installing NORMA into VS 2010 (a.k.a. 'Dev10')? Other than the usual and unpredictable amount of work testing and building workarounds, about how much effort has it taken in the past to adapt the installer to new versions of Visual Studio? tnx - Jim

I thought that I requested only C#, but only C++ is installed.

Operator error (once again) :( I find that after I upgrade to VS2008 SP1 the installation completes nicely. However, I'm not certain whether this is specific to Windows 7. -Jim

  • Failed install on Windows7, VS2008

I have been running NORMA on Windows7, Visual Studio 2008, using the Windows7 release candidate. Worked fine with the March release of NORMA. Yesterday I wiped my disk and installed Windows7 Released (RTM), installed VS2008, and tried to install NORMA, using the 2209_06CTP. The install script somehow thinks I'm installing into VS 2005! ...

  • Context Window, 0 generations, multiple objects

I wish to show only selected objects in the context window (to facilitate moveing them to a different diagram). In the ORM Context Window I select Genereations=0 (so as not to pick up extraneous objects). I select more than one object. Only the first object appears in the Context window. ----- I would expect all selected objects (and roles, ...
